Dr. Rivka Edery is a skilled, committed and empathetic therapist focusing on trauma and complex PTSD. She holds a doctorate in clinical and applied psychology and is licensed as a clinical social worker. Her dedication lies in aiding individuals in overcoming abandonment issues, complex trauma and attachment challenges. Employing proven methods such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) she supports clients in their quest, for strength, health and secure connections.
This 2-hour continuing education workshop synthesizes Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) within the U-Model framework, building on Workshops 1–3. Participants will explore how IFS’s parts work and ACT’s six processes complement each other across therapy stages, practicing integrated techniques through reflection, discussion, and a detailed case example. Designed for mental health professionals, educators, and caregivers, the course equips attendees with skills to apply the U-Model for case conceptualization and treatment planning, fostering deeper self-awareness and psychological flexibility in clients. A take-home handout reinforces key concepts. Notably, this integration supports foster care settings by combining IFS’s compassion for inner conflicts with ACT’s focus on values-driven action, aiding caregivers and youth in navigating emotional complexity. Prior attendance at Workshops 1–3 is recommended.
This course is eligible for 2 continuing education credits.
This course is suitable for Psychologists, LMHCs, MFTs, Social Workers, LPCs, and Counselors.

At the end of the workshop, the participant will be able to:
- Apply the U-Model framework by integrating one IFS technique (e.g., befriending a part) and one ACT technique (e.g., defusion) in a practice exercise and describing how they enhance client flexibility during the case discussion.
- Develop a case conceptualization by outlining one IFS-based intervention (e.g., identifying an exile) and one ACT-based intervention (e.g., values-based action) for a sample client scenario during the 50-minute treatment planning segment.
