Derric Brown Sr., LCSW is a trauma-informed counselor who leads with authenticity, vulnerability, and empathy. As a U.S. Army veteran. Derric brings a deep understanding of resilience and personal growth, allowing him to connect with individuals from all walks of life. His work focuses on male teenagers and adults seeking meaning, purpose, and a stronger sense of self. Through a collaborative approach, he helps clients navigate self-esteem, identity, and intimacy, empowering them to improve their mental, physical, social, and spiritual well-being.
This course delves into Erik Erikson’s foundational stage of psychosocial development, Trust vs. Mistrust (birth to 12 months), and its profound impact on emotional development and attachment, particularly in foster care survivors. Using the instructor's own experiences as a foster care survivor, participants will explore the real-world implications of attachment disruptions, trauma, and the challenge of building trust in a chaotic, unstable environment. This narrative-driven course emphasizes the importance of understanding the Trust vs. Mistrust stage in therapeutic work with foster care survivors, providing practical insights for clinicians, social workers, and caregivers.
This course is eligible for 2 continuing education credits.

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- List 3-4 key characteristics of the Trust vs. Mistrust stage and explain their relevance to therapeutic interventions with foster care survivors.
- Identify 2-3 ways the Trust vs. Mistrust stage (infancy, birth to 18 months) impacts emotional development and attachment.
