Carolyn Gartner, LCSW, FT, is the founder of The Center For Integrated Grief, a group therapy practice. She is a licensed clinical social worker and a Fellow in Thanatology (the study of dying, death and bereavement). Prior to this she worked in hospice for 9 years. She wrote a book about her experience available on Audible: Gritty Side of Grace. She hosts a podcast on YouTube with the same name. She has been interviewed by HuffPost, Parade Magazine and American Tributaries Podcast.

Course Description

This workshop will help therapists learn strengths-based models and tools to support clients to integrate grief into their hearts for healthy coping. A brief history of thanatology (the study of death, dying and bereavement) will be introduced in this course. Participants will learn about Dr. Neimeyer's "3 R Theory", "Continuing Bond theory and Meaning Reconstruction", D. Harris' theory of non-death loss and Pauline Boss' theory of Ambiguous Loss. Participants will also learn to assess for Prolonged Grief Disorder and when to refer clients for further treatment. Examples from work with real clients will be presented. *Names of clients will not be used, and all clients have given permission for this discussion.

This course is eligible for 2 continuing education credits.
