Amy Geller, DSW, LCSW, joined A Home Within in 2023 first as the Chapter Director of our New Jersey chapter, and now also as a volunteer therapist working one-on-one with a client.
Becoming a Chapter Director in NJ has allowed me the opportunity to network with and learn from other like-minded clinicians.

What's a fun fact about you?
Amy: In addition to my private practice, teaching, and volunteering, I love collecting vinyl records and seeing live music. This made the recent 30 year anniversary celebration of A Home Within in Boston even more special. Besides meeting so many wonderful people in person, we were entertained by the talented Lucy Kaplansky!
Why did you decide to join A Home Within?
Amy: As a passionate advocate for adoptees, many of whom have experienced some time in foster care, I saw volunteering for A Home Within as a way to offer accessible services to my community. When I signed up to volunteer, I was inspired to continue the dedicated legacy of the clinical directors who had gone before me.
What is your favorite part about volunteering with us?
Amy: Becoming a Clinical Director in NJ has allowed me the opportunity to network with and learn from other like-minded clinicians. (Private practice, as we know, can be so isolating.) I love the idea of making private practice model counseling accessible to folks who might otherwise never know it's available.
What would you say to someone considering volunteering with A Home Within?
Amy: I have been working with an AHW client for many months now. It has been highly rewarding to use my expertise and be of service in this way. I would encourage any therapist who seeks a way to give back to their community to consider joining A Home Within. It is a warm, friendly, and super supportive organization. We'd love to have you join us!
Thank you so much, Amy, for the many ways you donate your time and skills to A Home Within!
