I would love to see A Home Within expand and be able to offer more therapy for people whose lives are impacted by foster care and, at the same time, more consultation groups for clinicians. This is such important work.
It has been a long goal of mine to become a part of A Home Within. I first read an article about A Home Within in social work school in the early 1990s and felt inspired by the depth and dedication of the therapeutic work. I then became busy with agency work, institute training and teaching. After moving from agency work into private practice, I was offered the opportunity to be a consultation group leader. The paper on A Home Within stuck in my memory and I was delighted to join [in 2019].
I have been honored to supervise A Home Within clinicians over the past 4 years. These clinicians are dedicated to their A Home Within clients and take the commitment of therapy for “as long as it takes” very seriously. This commitment creates a bond for the clinicians in which we help one another face suffering by offering compassion and understanding. What could be more important in today’s world?
Growth! I would love to see A Home Within expand and be able to offer more therapy for people whose lives are impacted by foster care and, at the same time, more consultation groups for clinicians. This is such important work.
The clinicians who commit to this work are wonderful.
I have become more active in the psychoanalytic community since the pandemic. I was a Teaching Fellow of the American Psychoanalytic Association in 2022/23 and am currently a student at New Directions, a postgraduate training program in psychoanalytically oriented writing. Finding ways to keep learning, growing, and seeking opportunities to support the growth of others is an important political statement in todays’ world.
